Niamh Parsons Workshop

Niamh Parsons

Music Network’s January 2018 tour will feature traditional singer Niamh Parsons. She will be giving a workshop at the National Opera House, Wexford on Sunday, Jan 14, 2018 as part of Music Network's Learning and Participation Programme. This will focus on her English language repertoire. There are places for up to 10 teen singers. Music Network and Craobh Loch Garman are covering the cost of the workshop. The same evening Niamh performs on the stage of the Jerome Hynes Theatre at the Opera House with fiddler Ciarán Tourish, flautist Liam Kelly and guitar virtuoso John Doyle. What a treat for the ears that will be! Note: those attending the workshop are expected to attend the concert (8pm) - tickets available at the concession rate. Book through Opera House box office. Tel 053 9122144.

Some background: "Niamh Parsons, formerly of Arcady, is a peerless balladeer with one of the most distinctive voices in Irish music. Donegal fiddle maestro and long-time member of Altan, Ciarán Tourish is fêted for his incendiary improvisation and cascading arpeggios, providing the perfect foil for the invention and rhythmic drive of flautist Liam Kelly. A founder member of Dervish, Kelly is equally at home trading riffs with James Brown, The Buena Vista Social Club or Sting. Add to the mix John Doyle’s signature guitar sound, heard on recordings by Solas, Joan Baez, Usher’s Island, Linda Thompson and Tim O’Brien among others, and you’ll find no finer musical company to carry you through January with a light heart and a skip in your step."
