Master fiddler James P. Gavin brings a touch of magic to Macken's

James P Gavin Alice and James McIntyre

James Patrick Gavin, James McIntyre and Alice Wickham McIntyre put together a gorgeous gig in Macken's Pub, Wexford last night. Gavin plays his fiddle like it is an extension of himself, one minute bringing to life, with the lightest of touches, a slow Fermanagh air, the next ripping through a set of reels at warp speed. James McIntyre's guitar accompaniment was spot on, despite only sitting down with Gavin to rehearse them a few hours earlier. He also looked after all vocal duties on the night with great aplomb. Alice's guest slot, mid-show, may have been short but it was high octane. She led the boys a merry dance with with a couple of sets of jigs and reels. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable gig. JPG is welcome in these parts any time!
